Bowie State University has chosen a developer to shape a major mixed-use project meant to connect the campus with the surrounding community — and provide much-needed student housing. Currently, the site is just 1.6 acres of woods owned by the university at the intersection of Laurel Bowie and Jericho Park roads, adjacent to the MARC commuter lot. But by the fall of 2026, it's expected to be a new residential and retail development called the Gateway, to include student housing and retail accessible to students as well as Bowie State's neighbors.
